Game Overview:

This game was created for the GameDev.tv 2024 game jam. The primary focus was on developing new mechanics, specifically a resource management and building system, along with implementing a save system without using PlayerPrefs. While these features were challenging to implement, they form the core gameplay experience, albeit in a simplified form due to time constraints.

Storyline:

Set in the heart of Africa, Kijiji is a secluded village threatened by the malevolent Upepo Wa Giza (Wind of Darkness) every 100 years. Legend has it that a banished sorcerer cursed the village, making the Heartstone Shrine the only source of protection and prosperity. Players assume the role of Amani, a brave warrior tasked with defending the village. By day, Amani coordinates the construction of fortifications and resource gathering. At night, Amani fights off the shadowy minions to protect the Heartstone Shrine. To lift the curse, Amani must defend the shrine for 30 days.

Controls:

Use the mouse to navigate and build during the day. Pressing the spacebar centers the view on the village. During nighttime, use WASD to move and the mouse to aim and shoot at enemies.

Known Issues:

  • Health indicators for buildings and enemies are missing.
  • Building costs are not displayed.
  • Occasionally, the camera control system behaves unpredictably.
  • There is no way to move or sell buildings
  • No way to pause or exit the game (alt+f4 is your friend)
  • Data serialization does not work with the WebGL version
